JVC Flute Studio
Come join the JVC flute studio and find your voice!
I believe that each flutist is an individual with unique characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses. It is my goal as a teacher to identify these and allow the student’s musicianship, musical independence, self-awareness, and enjoyment of music to prosper.
Teaching Philosophy
Through the culmination of my musical training, I believe having a strong foundation of sound and tone quality is of the utmost importance–then comes finger technique and its refinement. By having a defined sound, we are able to unlock our voices on our instruments, developing our musicianship.
Although I am the “guiding force” throughout lessons, I strive for my students to become independent thinkers. I am not with my students in band or orchestra rehearsals or in their personal practice sessions. Constantly throughout a lesson, I ask students to evaluate themselves, take personal inventory of what they are doing and hearing. Additionally, I give my students as many tools as possible in order for them to reach success without my aid.
Lastly, having fun while playing music is my biggest goal. There is fun in excellence, and that is what I push all of my students to achieve.
Each student is encouraged to seek out other flutists than myself. This may include suggested videos or audio clips of notable professional flutists or friends to play with for fun. Using these opportunities will not only allow the student to dive deeper into the world of music, but will also give them a better chance to achieve musical independence and become their own teachers.
Whether it be for beginning players, district/region/all-state band auditions, college auditions, or flutists that simply want to hone their playing skills, I am here to help!
As a member of the studio, each student will be entitled to detailed noted about each lesson, free reference materials, and opportunities to perform in an annual studio recital.
Pennsylvania and Florida State Teaching Clearances are up-to-date and may be shared upon request.
I hope all of my lessons serve each student well and allow each student to find their voice!
